Ft. DeSoto Park is one of the finest parks in the country and it offers almost limitless opportunities for photography especially for those interested in bird photography. There are 1100 acres to explore and nearly 300 species of birds have been seen here. In taking a workshop with me you will enjoy the advantage of a guide that has worked the park for several years and countless photography sessions. We will go straight to the action with plenty of back up plans in case the action has moved to a different part of the park.

The light is the key to successful photography and so the day is broken in half. You can sign up for the time of day that most suits your schedule and of course you can do both sessions. During spring warbler migration in particular I would highly recommend that you do.

Morning Session
We start early in the morning, 30 Minutes before Sunrise and will shoot until approximately 10.

A "typical" morning session would start about sunrise at the East Beach. We will work the sunrise as well as shorebirds and shorebird silouhettes. Depending on the time of the year we may get the sunrise peeking up through the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. From there we will move to prime shore bird areas or songbird areas depending on the season and your interests.

Evening Session
We will meet at 5 and shoot until the light is gone.

An evening at Ft. DeSoto can also be very rewarding with spoonbills, wood storks and others coming back to the mangroves to roost. We will work tidal lagoons and the mangroves along North Beach with ample opportunity for shorebirds and unresctricted views of sunsets with no man made opjects in view.

Costs are $75 per session or $100 for the day. Limited to 3 students.
